You might be interested in this website http://www.bookofjob.org This online commentary is a legal and philosophical defence of God’s goodness in the face of his authorization of evil. It is highly praised by leading Job scholars (Clines, Habel, Janzen) and the Review of Biblical Literature. Their reviews are on the left hand column of the website.

I just stumbled across your blog. It's encouraging to see others who are exercised to study the Word of God and communicate it's truth. Keep at it by God's strength!

Luther,

I am always trying to get ahead in my lesson writing, but usually do not end up posting before Sunday. However, if it would be of benefit to you or anyone else, I will certainly try.

Thanks!

Lots of thought provoking questions in a row! Wow!
I would say, that 'if we have no transactional relationship with God', that the only purpose we serve is ourselves.
The whole idea of covenant is the giving of one's self. God has done His part, have we? If we don't respond to His call, no transaction or covenant is made; thus we are no good to God and we have no use for Him. That would certianly limit our concern for our actions affectting others and our piety would be nothing more than our own self-righteousness, covering up our unbelief (or indifference).
I appreciate your insight to this scripture, and the questions you posed.

"in the face of all we do not know, Job confesses the one thing that is known:

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: (Job 19:25-26 KJV) "

Amen!
